One of our residential architectural designs has been undergoing finalization. It is a Private Villa, and it is located in a highly regarded area of Kuwait, Dhahia Abdullah Al Salem. Take a peak of some of the details and the realization of this project.
Designed by Cal-earth in association with SSH International. Developer URC described the resort as a unique eco resort development featuring a 5-star luxury resort with chalets for sale, a handicraft souq and a research center. The resort would be located in the remote village of Shuwaimiyah in the South of Oman, a fishing village situated on a 30 kilometer virgin beach on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
Early in the history of the project, back when we headed the project's branding and graphics at SSH International, we immediately saw that the name 'Shuwaimiyah' could not work. It was too long & unpronounceable for the average English speaking tourist. So we researched and found a wealth of cultural references based on the maritime traditions, reminiscent of old folk tales of Sinbad and the lore of his adventures. That's when we uncovered the name 'Junoot', as the original and forgotten name of the area. We proposed the brand name, and URC loved it.
URC decided to go with an ecological approach for designing the project, and have done a prototype in the methods of the late Persian architect, Nader Khalili. Now that the project is close to realisation, we at A+design are simply delighted the name “Junoot” has stuck for the whole duration of the resort development and all its iterations. We’re especially proud to be associated with the first eco resort in the region. To read more on the project visit the Cal-Earth and URC website.
We would like to extend our congratulations to our friends (and the carpenters of our office) Milwaukee Carpentry on their new logo and their new Instagram account. The logo is simple picture of a saw and based on the logo type of the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Their account feature some of the wooden custom furniture and Ready-made wooden knick-knacks. Check them out @milwaukee_carpentry
Years after this ambitious project was publicized, it appears that there have been two pilot projects started, and they show potential success. CNN today has reported on the pilot project in Qatar along with some pictures [Link]. Now imagine this project on a huge scale here in Kuwait, much like the rendering below, as a river of regenerative greenery that is also a factory for food, clean energy, fresh water and salt. Hope at last?

These are images from the Ygen Expo held last month, in which we launched the start-up fashion business "Simply by Sara". The brand was created and named by our studio. We also assisted with the booth design and fabrication, and the outcome was something we are very proud of.
We've been itching to try one of the many 3D printing online services ever since we heard of this amazing technology that was now affordable and available to the public. Lately we needed to embellish our office door with our brand, but the intricacy and the detail of our logo required the precision that only 3d printing can offer. It was as good an excuse as ever to do this.
We chose shapeways.com out of the many online services we researched. We modeled our logo using SketchUp, uploaded an exported *.obj file of the model to the service and received the finished model by mail after only 10 days. We decided to give the model a metallic finish using the airbrush paints hobbyists use to paint model airplanes/cars (This was a tip from shapeway's support). We highly recommend this fast and affordable service for your 3d printing needs.
